Flood affects elevators and lobby; most court matters will be continued.
The Los Angeles Superior Court Compton Courthouse has been closed due to flooding, according to a press release from LASC. Los Angeles County is the nation’s largest county by population, with more than 10 million residents. LASC operates 25 or so courthouses.
On February 1, 2024, the Superior Court announced that the Courthouse would reopen on Friday, February 2, 2024.
The press release is below.
The Compton Courthouse, located at 200 W. Compton Blvd., Compton, will close until further notice due to another pipe burst over the weekend that resulted in a flood which has left the courthouse's public elevators, stairwells, jury room and much of the lobby inaccessible. This is the second time in less than a month that a flood caused by a pipe failure has impacted court operations.
The Court is in the process of working with partners at the Judicial Council of California, who own and operate the facility, to assess the damage and obtain an estimate of when the courthouse will reopen.
All imperative and in-custody matters will be transferred immediately to another courthouse for hearing. All other matters will be continued.
Court staff will be available outside of the Compton Courthouse this morning to assist court users and answer questions. Parties with cases on calendar today will be notified of transfers and/or continuances by the Court upon visiting the courthouse. Parties may also check the status of their case by calling (310) 761-4300.
Compton Court users are encouraged to visit the Court's website, http://www.lacourt.org, where court business can be done remotely, including searching for traffic citations by driver's license or citation number and paying citations or signing up for payment plans, searching for case information and updates, and more
Selected pictures of the damage incurred because of this most recent flood are attached to this Public Notice.
Further information regarding continuances and transfers for cases calendared in the Compton Courthouse over the next several days will be made available as soon as possible.
