Powerful Earthquake Shakes Santa Monica Friday Afternoon

2.9.24: The most powerful earthquake in years hit the Westside on Friday afternoon.

Magnitude 4.7 earthquake, 7 miles from Thousand Oaks, in the sea off of Malibu ·hit at 1:47 PM. In some homes dishes fell off the shelves. The ground was still shaking a minute later. Cats and dogs ran to hide under beds.

By coincidence, the quake fell on the 53rd anniversary of the 1971 Northridge earthquake.
