September 27, 2023, Los Angeles, CA – The Federal Trade Commission accused Amazon, worth $1.3 trillion today, of being a monopoly and misusing its powers, punishing merchants and limiting services to sellers that don't buckle to Amazon's demands, according to the high stakes lawsuit filed Tuesday. Amazon forces sellers to use its warehouses and delivery services, inflating costs for consumers and sellers, and to offer products more cheaply on other platforms, says the FTC, which quotes a selle...
As we are starting to see Dr. Anthony Fauci in the news again to tout the benefits of masking, we should take the time to follow his directives on this during the past several years. At the beginning of Covid, he went back and forth on the usefulness of masks. In January, 2020 he said they don't work. He doubled down on this two months later when he said people shouldn't be walking around with masks because they're not providing the perfect protection that people think it is. Interestingly, the...
In a puzzling video posted to Twitter, a male walrus uses his tusks to puncture the flotation devices surrounding a Russian small boat as it is lowered into the Arctic sea near Franz Josef Land. "What are you doing?" asks a puzzled Russian sailor. It appears that the Walrus wanted to prevent the boat from being deployed, as he damages it badly. A second walrus, also with tusks, looks on during the action. It's unclear why the marine mammal would behave in this manner. But some on twitter...
September 26, 2023 - Tonight the Santa Monica City Council will consider whether to add a paragraph about "hate speech" to their existing Civility Policy. The existing policy exhorts those attending city council meetings to treat others "courteously," "listen "respectfully," and "exercise self-control" while embracing "respectful disagreement." No part of this policy has the force of law but is merely a resolution. Tonight, acting on a recommendation put forward in July 2022, the council will...
The University of California Ethnic Studies Council, which claims to represent all 300 ethnic studies faculty on UC campuses, is vigorously promoting a proposal for a UC ethnic studies admission requirement, whose course criteria are intended to set the standard for ethnic studies courses statewide. That proposal, if approved, would force virtually every high school student in the state to take an ethnic studies course whose content would be determined by UC faculty "experts" who believe...
September 22, 2023 - John Alle, the Santa Monica activist, business owner, and founding member of the Santa Monica Coalition who was attacked by a drugged homeless individual on Tuesday, wrote us to clear up some misconceptions that have been circulating in other news outlets.
